Introducing Liberica Coffee
Introducing Liberica Coffee
a one-of-a-kind coffee variety grown sustainably, traded fairly, and sourced from Liberia.
A cup of Liberica coffee transports you to the magical hills of northern Liberia, West Africa, in the rural area Garmu. Here, women are transforming the world around them through leadership that is defined by creativity and resilience. Save More Kids is training young women in Liberia to create sustainable solutions for food security through vocational training and mentorship. This training equips them to create and operate sustainable enterprises that have long-term impact on their ability to provide for themselves and their families. SMK has established a rice and vegetable farm and a 200-acre rubber tree farm that collectively provide over 1000 jobs annually and provide food security for more than 500 people each month. Situated between expansive rice swamps and rolling rubber tree farms are pockets of small, ancient Liberica coffee trees that have long been forgotten due to decades of poverty. These farms are oases of history, culture, and opportunity.
Liberian Coffee Co-Operative
Vision
To encourage solidarity within the Liberian coffee industry that strengthens the local farming communities' ability to export quality products to competitive markets.
Mission
The Liberian Coffee Co-Operative (LiCoCo) networks Liberian farmers through the Save More Kids organization, connecting them with resources and funding to improve their farming capability and also to an international market.
LiCoCo thus has three objectives in affecting long-term economic impact through this social enterprise:
Expanding Our Impact Initiatives
The co-op would operate as an umbrella for two other SMK Impact Initiatives. The Agricultural Impact Project and the Period Project intersect at a critical point that challenges women to manage and innovate sustainable agricultural enterprises to initiate fundamental, systemic change in Liberia’s culture and economy. The co-op fuses these programs into a niche social enterprise that allows for high-velocity impact in a valuable, forgotten market in Liberia.
