Save More Kids, a US based 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating in Liberia, West Africa, is organizing Run Liberia, a half marathon (13.1 miles / 21 KM) to be held in the Panta District of Liberia. Save More Kids invites you to participate in Run Liberia with the goal to raise US$400,000 to build an essential road that will improve the lives of many thousands of people. We ask you to join us in this effort to transform and empower the lives of an entire region of Liberia through being a runner, a donor, or a corporate sponsor. You will be running side by side with hundreds of Liberians while enjoying an immersive cultural exchange in the friendly and beautiful country of Liberia, resulting in the building of this critical roadway. ​

Connecting Us All

Run Liberia is an innovative, first-time event to take place in Liberia, West Africa. At a time when catastrophic events pull us apart from one another, Save More Kids is using this opportunity to bring people together. How much healing can our world achieve from running one road? For the first time in over 200 years Liberians are taking leadership to develop their own country. We anticipate that the entire local population of 40,000 people will be joining and supporting the run at your side as the event is shared live on multiple social media platforms. The rest of the world will tune in as well, as individual stories of unification and cross-cultural barriers are dissolved, while we run in solidarity for us all.

Providing a Pathway to Reduce Poverty and Suffering

During the civil wars of 1989-2003, major businesses fled the country, government services were disrupted, and the entire infrastructure of Liberia was largely destroyed. According to The World Factbook, Liberia has only 408 miles paved versus 6,178 miles of unpaved roads.  Nearly twenty years later, these unpaved roads remain in very poor and often impassable conditions. Funds derived from Run Liberia will fund the construction of a fortified gravel road that will link the village of Garmu and twenty-seven other villages to a paved trans-country highway. Your participation in Run Liberia will help to improve the health and the well-being of hundreds of thousands of people by supporting this incredibly unique and transformative event.

Run Liberia and the Witness Experience Trip

The Run Liberia half marathon will be held on March 19th, 2022 in Garmu, Bong County, Liberia.

We invite participants and supporters of the race to enhance their experience in Liberia by taking part in the Save More Kids Witness Experience trip taking place Wednesday, March 16th – Monday, March 21st, 2022. The Witness Experience is an all-inclusive, immersive trip organized by Save More Kids, Inc., that brings travelers intimately close to Liberian culture through an up close and personal educational experience. Travelers receive a copy of Q’s memoir titled Witness: A Civil War Through the Eyes of a Child in advance of this event, and visit key locations in the book. This fast-paced trip is centered around landmarks in Liberia, the history of the Liberian Civil War, and actual locations where Save More Kids founder, Quanuquanei (Q) Karmue, and his family took refuge as violence tore through the nation. The Witness Experience takes travelers from Monrovia to Garmu where Run Liberia will be held, traveling across more than a century of history, culture, and change. See detailed information here.

Run options include an individual half marathon, a relay half marathon, a walk to Garmu, as well as a virtual race.

Run Liberia Options

Run Liberia & Witness Experience
​We offer an all-inclusive travel experience in Liberia for those who wish to only participate in the race and festivities. Participants arrive on or Wednesday, March 16th and departs on Monday, March 21st.

 Run Liberia Race Only
​People wishing to participate in Run Liberia who have friends or family in the area, those who live in Liberia, and those who wish to arrange their own lodging and transportation are welcome to sign up as individuals without the Run Liberia travel package (Witness Experience).

Virtual Run
​Join Run Liberia on race day! We understand not everyone is able to travel to Liberia, so we want to bring the race to you! You can join Run Liberia from any location on our virtual platform and complete the race with us. Come along with us and our incredible network of support, and run alongside Liberians for an amazing cause.

Logistics in Liberia

Runners and participants participating in the all-inclusive programs will arrive at Roberts International Airport for the Run Liberia Witness Experience trip Wednesday March 16th, 2022. Upon arrival, participants will be met by Save More Kids Run Liberia staff. The Save More Kids organization has been hosting the Witness Experience, events, and visitors in Liberia for many years. Travel logistics such as navigation through customs, transportation, and housing are fully organized and facilitated for the convenience and ease of travel for all participants. Throughout the Run Liberia events, there will be engagement with locals, indigenous dancers, music, and customary foods. Run Liberia is a unique opportunity for runners and other supporters to impact an entire region of Liberia while experiencing a beautiful land and fascinating culture.

Key Dates

TODAY - Register for the Run Liberia Race / Witness Experience or the Virtual Race.

February 4th - Witness Experience down payments due.

February 18th - Remaining Witness Experience balance due for all travelers.

March 14th - Virtual Race registration closes.

March 14th - Fundraising Deadline.

March 16th - Witness Experience Trip begins in Monrovia, Liberia.

March 19th - Race Day! The half marathon begins at 10am local time (GMT) in Sawolor Town in Bong County. The Virtual Race is open all day from 12am EST to 12pm EST.

March 21st - Witness Experience ends as travelers depart from Roberts International Airport in Monrovia, Liberia.

March 26th - Log-in for a virtual conference call with all runners, fundraisers, and the Save More Kids Team to reflect on this adventure and learn more about what is to come next.
