If we can build a road, we can build a bridge,
if we can build a bridge, we can build a nation.
if we can build a bridge, we can build a nation.
After the civil wars ended in 2004, Liberia’s infrastructure was destroyed and remains in a state of disrepair, leaving the people without hope of improving prosperity and development. The lack of passable roads is an immense obstacle to economic growth and access to health facilities, and exponentially increases poverty and infant mortality. The building of “One Road” will reopen a major trade route between Liberia and Guinea which will vastly advance economic progress and the well-being of over 100,000 people in this living in this region.
Save More Kids (SMK) created Run Liberia, a half marathon, to facilitate the funding to rebuild this essential road. SMK staff and local volunteers traveled from village to village engaging with the people, and it became clear just how much the road project means to the community.
For 200 years, the Liberian people have been told they do not have the ability to improve the conditions around them, but the people in this region and in neighboring Guinea have concluded that self-determination and development are necessary and inevitable. They came by the thousands to participate in the inaugural Run Liberia in March of 2022, and donated what they could to support the rebuilding the road!
The second Run Liberia will be held again in the beautiful Panta District of Liberia, where participants will be immersed in local culture, experiencing firsthand the unforgettable connection and bonding that humanity offers when the people come together for “One Road.”
Join us for the Run Liberia Half Marathon to be held on January 7, 2023.
Deadline for REGISTRATION is November 30th, 2022.
