The Witness Experience trip to Liberia, West Africa brings you intimately close with Liberian culture, transforming Q's Witness memoir into an immersive educational experience. This fast-paced trip is centered around landmarks of the Liberian Civil War and the many sites that Q and his family took refuge in as violence tore through the nation. Highlighting key moments in Witness, Q will take you from Monrovia, to Gbarnga, to Garmu, where you will learn about what life was like before, during, and after the war- travelling across over a century’s worth of history, culture, and change.

Monrovia - The journey begins here, in the nation’s capital, where you’ll be greeted at Roberts International Airport. Monrovia boasts a lively, energetic culture and a rich history, it is a hub of international trade, and is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site! A multi-day tour of the city will carry you from Liberia’s beginnings in 1822 at Providence Island, through decades of economic growth, to the history created from the Liberian Civil War and the recent growth that the country is experiencing. Every street in this capital has a story, and the Witness Experience will bring you through that journey!

Gbarnga - Traveling three hours north from the capital to Gbarnga will take you to the start of the Witness memoir. The Witness Experience brings you to Sugar Hill, where you will stay in Q’s childhood home which has since been converted to be CCH Orphanage Home. Staying here you will become familiar with the daily lives of most Liberians! The children at the home are compassionate to their guests and curious about the world - living with them you will learn about the challenges and joys of growing up in Liberia!

Garmu - A trip to Garmu is a relaxing and powerful escape to nature. Home of Mount Garn, this city, situated on the Guinea border, is a place of opportunity, hope, and prosperity! You will have an opportunity to hike the mountain with the children of CCH by your side, eat a home-cooked, freshly prepared, Liberian meal while overlooking the exquisite landscape, and experience first hand the world of agriculture in West Africa! The Witness Experience would be incomplete without seeing the future of Liberia - one that is forgiving of the past and passionate about writing the next chapter in Liberia’s ongoing story!
